That’s right everybody! Starting July 10th, the new “worldwide” release day for albums will be Fridays. Take a look below for some excerpts of the Billboard article, and then you can head right here to read the rest. #Fridays
“It’s a new day for the music industry, especially when it comes to album release days. As it was reported before, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) was thinking of moving release days to a global standard and it’s starting on July 10.
Countries like the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Australia will all be releasing albums on Friday to help drive sales (consumer peak usually happens during the weekend) and combat piracy, since currently, some albums are available sooner than others depending on what country you live in. This is a major move for record distribution and the music industry figured they could start in July in case there were any glitches in the system, they could fix in the summer before the holiday push later this year.” – Billboard
